SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 259
Commending the Independence High School boys' lacrosse team.

WHEREAS, in 2025, the Independence High School boys' lacrosse team won its first state title in program history with a dominating performance in the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and
WHEREAS, the Independence High School Tigers defeated the five-time defending state champions from Riverside High School in the regional tournament and outscored their next three opponents 39–12 on the way to the state final; and
WHEREAS, the Independence Tigers claimed the state crown after defeating the Douglas Freeman High School Mavericks by a score of 13–9; and
WHEREAS, junior Trent Stewart scored in every quarter and led the Independence Tigers with six goals, followed by Cooper Woodring, Will Kubie, and Braden Lesando with two each, and Mason Hill with one; and
WHEREAS, the Independence Tigers finished the season with an impressive 19–2 record, and the successful season is a tribute to the hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the unwavering support of the entire Independence High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Independence High School boys' lacrosse team on winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship in 2025; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dave Woodring, head coach of the Independence High School boys' lacrosse team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievements.
