SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 138
Commending Clifford Lee Tyson.

WHEREAS, Clifford Lee Tyson, an honorable veteran and proud member of the Greatest Generation, who has lived a life defined by service, resilience, and dedication to country, celebrates his 100th birthday in 2026; and
WHEREAS, Clifford Tyson was commissioned in the United States Navy during World War II and served aboard the USS Bremerton as part of the Pacific Fleet that was crucial to victory in the final stages of the war; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the crew on the USS Bremerton, Clifford Tyson was responsible for operating one of the United States Navy's most powerful heavy cruisers, which protected aircraft carriers and established the United States' technological and strategic advantage in naval warfare; and
WHEREAS, the freedoms enjoyed today by citizens of the Commonwealth and the United States are the result of the bravery and selflessness of Clifford Tyson and veterans like him, who never hesitated to answer the call to serve; and
WHEREAS, through his courage, sacrifice, and patriotism, Clifford Tyson has embodied the values that define the Greatest Generation and has earned the respect and esteem of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Clifford Lee Tyson hereby be commended for his legacy of service on the occasion of his 100th birthday; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Clifford Lee Tyson as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration and gratitude for his distinguished service and best wishes as he celebrates this remarkable milestone.
