SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 170
Celebrating the life of Carl Robinson Cornwell.
Agreed to by the Senate, March 13, 2026
WHEREAS, Carl Robinson Cornwell, an honorable veteran, accomplished businessman and automotive professional, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and beloved member of the Locust Grove community in Orange County, died on January 25, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Carl Cornwell served the country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army, including as a vehicle dispatcher and maintenance supervisor in Germany; and
WHEREAS, Carl Cornwell enjoyed a successful career in the automotive industry, including as a plant manager and the owner of an automotive repair shop, where he earned a reputation for being an honest, trustworthy, and fair businessman; and
WHEREAS, through acts large and small, Carl Cornwell did everything in his power to care for his family and to support them in their endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Carl Cornwell's joys in life included playing golf and participating in Civil War study groups, and he was happiest of all when spending quality time with his family and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, guided daily by his Christian faith, Carl Cornwell had been an active member of Lake of the Woods Church in Locust Grove since moving to the area in 1994; and
WHEREAS, preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Shirley, Carl Cornwell will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his children, Brenda and David, and their families; and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Carl Robinson Cornwell, a cherished member of the Locust Grove community whose integrity, humility, and quiet strength will forever inspire all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Carl Robinson Cornwell as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
