SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 234

Commending Virginia Western Community College.

WHEREAS, Virginia Western Community College was established in 1966 as part of the Virginia Community College System and has, for 60 years, provided accessible, affordable, and high-quality educational opportunities to the citizens of the Commonwealth, particularly in Roanoke and the surrounding region; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Western Community College has played a vital role in workforce development by offering associate degree programs, certificates, career and technical education, and customized training that meet the evolving needs of local industries and employers; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Western Community College has empowered generations of students to pursue higher education, transfer to four-year institutions, advance in their careers, and achieve personal and professional success; and

WHEREAS, through partnerships with regional school divisions, businesses, and community organizations, Virginia Western Community College has strengthened economic growth and expanded educational pathways for residents of Southwest Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and supporters of Virginia Western Community College have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to academic excellence, student success, and community service; and

WHEREAS, the 60th anniversary of Virginia Western Community College is a fitting occasion to recognize Virginia Western Community College's enduring contributions to the Commonwealth and to celebrate its legacy of opportunity and achievement; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Virginia Western Community College on the occasion of its 60th anniversary for its outstanding service to the Commonwealth and its citizens; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia Western Community College as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and best wishes for continued success in the years to come.
