SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 143
Celebrating the life of John William Jones, Sr., D.D.S.

WHEREAS, John William Jones, Sr., D.D.S., an esteemed dentist, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and respected member of the Richmond community, died on September 29, 2025; and
WHEREAS, John Jones was a standout on the baseball diamond for many years and became affectionately known by family and friends as “Casey” in a nod to the famous poem “Casey at the Bat”; and
WHEREAS, Casey Jones graduated from the former Virginia Randolph Community High School in 1960, then earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Union University four years later, followed by a doctor of dentistry degree from the Howard University College of Dentistry 10 years later; and
WHEREAS, Casey Jones established his first dental practice in Richmond in 1976 and dedicated more than a half-century to providing quality dental care and ensuring the well-being of his patients; and
WHEREAS, Casey Jones contributed to the advancement of the dental profession as a longtime member of both the Old Dominion Dental Society and the Peter B. Ramsey Dental Society; and
WHEREAS, Casey Jones joined Alpha Gamma (E) chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., at Virginia Union University in 1962 and remained a proud member of the organization for more than 50 years; and
WHEREAS, preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Diane, Casey Jones will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his children, Vaughan, John, Jr., Sean, and Earle, and their families; and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of John William Jones, Sr., D.D.S., a revered dentist and member of the Richmond community whose faith, service, and devotion to his patients inspired all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John William Jones, Sr., D.D.S., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
