Commending the Suffolk Foundation.

WHEREAS, the Suffolk Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the people of Suffolk and the Western Tidewater region by facilitating and developing philanthropy and by awarding grants and scholarships to meet the community's needs, celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Suffolk Foundation was incorporated on November 9, 2006, with William N. Hill, former administrator of Suffolk Public Schools, serving as its first executive director; and
WHEREAS, the Suffolk Foundation receives and manages funds that are established by many separate donors to address a variety of issues affecting the Greater Suffolk region; and
WHEREAS, the Suffolk Foundation has championed a number of organizations and endeavors to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in Suffolk, Franklin, Smithfield, Isle of Wight County, and Southampton County; and
WHEREAS, the Suffolk Foundation's funds have advanced youth and senior programs and initiatives in the areas of health, education, arts and culture, the humanities, public and societal benefits, human services, and environmental and animal welfare; and
WHEREAS, since its founding, the Suffolk Foundation's funds have awarded nearly $10 million in grants to local organizations and more than $500,000 in scholarships to area youth; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the leadership of its board, the devotion of its officers, and the generosity of its donors, the Suffolk Foundation has made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Suffolk Foundation hereby be commended for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Suffolk Foundation as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for its contributions to Suffolk and the Commonwealth.
