Commending the Windsor Ruritan Club Pig Pickin'.

WHEREAS, the Windsor Ruritan Club will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Windsor Ruritan Club Pig Pickin' in April 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Windsor Ruritan Club Pig Pickin' stands as one of the longest-running and most cherished community traditions in Windsor and Isle of Wight County, bringing neighbors together in fellowship, service, and support of local causes for five decades; and
WHEREAS, established in the mid-1970s by members of the Windsor Ruritan Club, the annual Pig Pickin' was created as a way to raise funds for community service projects while celebrating the rural heritage and strong sense of neighborly connection that define the Windsor community; and
WHEREAS, what began as a modest gathering organized by dedicated volunteers quickly grew into a highly anticipated local event, drawing families, civic leaders, and supporters from across the region; and
WHEREAS, for 50 years, the Windsor Ruritan Club Pig Pickin' has served not only as a beloved social event but also as an important source of funding for programs that benefit Isle of Wight County residents; proceeds from the event have helped support scholarships for local students, youth programs, community improvement initiatives, and assistance for neighbors in need; and
WHEREAS, through the dedication of its members and volunteers, the Windsor Ruritan Club has consistently demonstrated the organization's guiding principle of “Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service”; generations of volunteers have contributed their time and talents to make the Pig Pickin' a success each year, preparing traditional Carolina-style barbecue, organizing community activities, and welcoming guests from across the region; and
WHEREAS, the event has become a hallmark of Windsor's community spirit and a reflection of the town's proud agricultural and cultural heritage; the 50-year milestone represents not only the longevity of a beloved tradition but also the enduring commitment of the club's members to serving others and strengthening their community; and
WHEREAS, the continued success of the Pig Pickin' is a testament to the generosity of local supporters, the dedication of club members past and present, and the strong bonds that unite the Windsor community; and the event remains a shining example of how a simple community gathering can grow into a lasting tradition that uplifts, supports, and brings people together year after year; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Windsor Ruritan Club Pig Pickin' hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Windsor Ruritan Club as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's enduring dedication to the Windsor Ruritan Club Pig Pickin'.
