Commending Hank Partin.

WHEREAS, Hank Partin has touched countless lives over the course of his long and distinguished career as a law-enforcement officer, which culminated in his service as sheriff of Montgomery County; and

WHEREAS, a native of the Eastern Shore, Hank Partin enlisted in the Virginia Army National Guard in 1983 and served the nation as a member of the National Guard, the United States Army Reserve, and on active duty for more than two decades, deploying to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Shield, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his military career, Hank Partin earned two Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, and three Army Achievement Medals; he retired with the rank of sergeant major in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Hank Partin began his law-enforcement career in 1987 with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Police Department, then joined the Christiansburg Police Department from 1988 to 1993; and

WHEREAS, Hank Partin joined the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in 1993 and rose through the ranks from patrol deputy to become sheriff in 2016, holding numerous leadership positions along the way; and

WHEREAS, among his many achievements as sheriff, Hank Partin increased the number of school resource officers in county schools, enhanced traffic safety around schools, established a drone team to locate criminals and missing persons, served as a peer support leader to build mental health resilience among his fellow public safety officers, and acquired new technology and equipment to help officers better respond to crisis situations; and

WHEREAS, Hank Partin proudly helped the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office maintain full accreditation during his tenure as sheriff; and

WHEREAS, Hank Partin offered his leadership to the Western Virginia Regional Jail Authority from 2016 to 2026, and he received a gubernatorial appointment to the Virginia Parole Board; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Hank Partin hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement as sheriff of Montgomery County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Hank Partin as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his legacy of achievements in service to others.
