Celebrating the life of Charles Dwight Chavis.

WHEREAS, Charles Dwight Chavis, a beloved father and grandfather in Henrico County who spent many years working for the family trucking business Chavis Transfer, died on March 3, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Charles Chavis was the youngest child of the late Horace and Patricia Chavis; he lived in South Richmond in his youth and later moved to Varina, where he graduated from Varina High School; and
WHEREAS, Charles Chavis spent his career on the open road, driving tractor trailers for Chavis Transfer, which was at one point the largest Black-owned trucking company in Richmond; his work was defined by professional pride and a steady hand, which steered him across 48 states over the course of his life; and
WHEREAS, Charles Chavis was a man of many talents who enjoyed woodworking, cooking, and sewing, often transforming raw materials into cherished gifts for family members and friends; and
WHEREAS, in later life, Charles Chavis enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of St. James Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Charles Chavis will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his daughters, Kellie and Brandi, and their families; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Charles Dwight Chavis; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles Dwight Chavis as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
