Commending Helen H. Guthrie.

WHEREAS, Helen H. Guthrie, a devoted educator and community leader who has touched many lives in the Richmond community, celebrated her 100th birthday on February 3, 2026; and

WHEREAS, born in Lawrenceville in 1926, Helen Guthrie attended Brunswick County Public Schools, then continued her education by earning a bachelor's degree from St. Paul's College and a master's degree from New York University; and

WHEREAS, Helen Guthrie pursued a career as an educator and taught business courses in Manassas and at Virginia Randolph High School and Highland Springs High School in Henrico County; she retired from Henrico County Public Schools in 1987 after mentoring and inspiring young people for 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Helen Guthrie has enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community for more than 46 years as an active member of Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves as a deaconess; and

WHEREAS, Helen Guthrie has also held leadership positions with many other civic and service organizations in the Richmond area; she has volunteered at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center for more than 35 years and served as a member of the National Council of Negro Women for 30 years; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Helen H. Guthrie hereby be commended on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Helen H. Guthrie as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for a lifetime of personal and professional achievements.
