Commending Corey L. McCray, Ph.D.

WHEREAS, since 2021, Corey L. McCray, Ph.D., has served as president of Paul D. Camp Community College, where he has worked diligently to advance workforce education in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Corey L. McCray earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a master's degree from Cambridge College; he first earned his teaching certification at Old Dominion University in the Troops to Teachers program in 1996, and in 2012 he returned to Old Dominion University where he earned his doctorate in higher education leadership; and

WHEREAS, after serving seven years in the United States Navy, Corey McCray transitioned to a career in education, serving first as a high school teacher and coach in Suffolk, and later continuing on to become director at the Pruden Center for Industry and Technology, executive vice president at Tidewater Community College, and associate vice chancellor in the Virginia Community College System; and

WHEREAS, as the ninth president of Paul D. Camp Community College, Corey McCray serves a community of 2,400 students and 120 employees; through his unwavering leadership, he works to ensure that the college's students are successful, engaged in the community, and prepared for the workforce; and

WHEREAS, Corey McCray has been a vital force behind student achievement at Paul D. Camp Community College and an inspiring leader in workforce development in the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Corey L. McCray, Ph.D., be commended for his leadership in advancing workforce development in the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Corey L. McCray, Ph.D., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his achievements and best wishes for the future.
