Commending William Massey.

WHEREAS, after 41 years of outstanding service and transformational leadership, William Massey retired as the chief executive officer of the Peninsula Agency on Aging, having greatly enhanced the quality of life for older adults on the Virginia Peninsula; and
WHEREAS, prior to joining the Peninsula Agency on Aging, William “Bill” Massey worked as a teacher, assistant principal, and rehabilitation counselor and supervisor with the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services, followed by a stint with the Urbanna-based nonprofit organization Bay Aging, which provides community support for older adults and people with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, as chief executive officer of the Peninsula Agency on Aging since 1984, Bill Massey upheld the organization's mission to enhance the quality of life for older adults by connecting them with the resources and support they need to stay engaged in the community; and
WHEREAS, Bill Massey guided the Peninsula Agency on Aging to focus on meeting nutritional needs, in-home care needs, and transportation to connect older adults with other programs and services; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his 41 years of service with the Peninsula Agency on Aging, Bill Massey witnessed a significant growth in the number of residents over the age of 60 and worked diligently to maintain a high level of care and provide services promptly and efficiently; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as chief executive officer, Bill Massey was a trusted mentor to his colleagues at the Peninsula Agency on Aging and helped grow the organization into a model for similar agencies around the country; and
WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Bill Massey plans to spend more time with his beloved family and seek new opportunities to serve the community as a volunteer advocate; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That William Massey hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement as chief executive officer of the Peninsula Agency on Aging; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to William Massey as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievements in helping older adults on the Virginia Peninsula age with grace and dignity.
