Commending the Fairfax Connector.

WHEREAS, the Fairfax Connector, the largest and farthest-reaching public bus system in the Commonwealth, celebrated its 40th anniversary of service to the residents of Fairfax County in 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Fairfax Connector was established in 1985 with 10 routes and 33 bus operators along the Route 1 Corridor and has grown to encompass 93 routes; and

WHEREAS, the Fairfax Connector supplements the regional rail and bus services provided by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority through its reliable and convenient routes, enhancing the mobility and safety of Fairfax County residents; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, the Fairfax Connector has delivered more than 250 million riders to destinations throughout Fairfax County, Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.; the bus system serves as a lifeline for local residents with no other means of transportation, ensuring critical access to necessities and other services across the county; and

WHEREAS, with programs such as the Student Bus Pass, which provides free bus rides to students, and the Transit Ridership Incentive Program, which offers reduced fares for commuters living below the poverty line, the Fairfax Connector has demonstrated its commitment to making transit accessible for everyone; and

WHEREAS, the Fairfax Connector has fulfilled its mission through the visionary leadership of Fairfax County officials and the hard work and dedication of its staff members and drivers; and

WHEREAS, local officials, past and present transit leaders, and special guests, such as John Ashford, who has been driving a Fairfax Connector bus since its very first route opened in 1985, came together to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the bus system on October 1, 2025; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Fairfax Connector hereby be commended on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Fairfax Connector as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the bus system's legacy of contributions to transit equity throughout Fairfax County.
