Commending Quentin Kidd.

WHEREAS, Quentin Kidd, the provost and executive vice president at Christopher Newport University, has contributed greatly to the Commission on Civic Education's annual Teacher Summit on Civic Education; and
WHEREAS, Quentin Kidd has written or edited five books, including the award-winning book on Southern politics, The Rational Southerner, which he co-authored with M.V. Hood III and Irwin L. Morris; and
WHEREAS, Quentin Kidd is the editor of American Government: Readings from Across Society and Government and Politics in Virginia: The Old Dominion at the 21st Century, and he has authored or co-authored more than 30 peer reviewed studies, book chapters, and funded research reports; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his leadership and achievements, Quentin Kidd has received a number of gubernatorial appointments to statewide committees and commissions and several awards, including the Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Commission on Civic Education was established by the General Assembly in 2005, and it produces an annual Teacher Summit on Civic Education soon after the November election that brings together Virginia educators to discuss strategies for improving civic education in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Quentin Kidd has attended and presented at the Commission on Civic Education's Teacher Summits for many years, collaborating with Bob Holsworth to do an in-depth analysis of the most recent election, which has become a treasured highlight of the summit over the years; and
WHEREAS, by giving generously of his time and expertise, Quentin Kidd has helped to ensure the Commission on Civic Education's Teacher Summit on Civic Education is a great success year after year; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Quentin Kidd hereby be commended for his efforts with the Commission on Civic Education's annual Teacher Summit on Civic Education; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Quentin Kidd as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his contributions to civic education in the Commonwealth.
