Celebrating the life of Alvin Lee Hale.

WHEREAS, Alvin Lee Hale, a distinguished law-enforcement leader and a pillar of the Christiansburg community, passed away on February 12, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Alvin Hale was born on September 1, 1934, in Floyd County, and he dedicated his life to the protection and service of his fellow citizens, embarking on a career in law enforcement that spanned more than five decades; and

WHEREAS, Alvin Hale served with the Christiansburg Police Department for 32 years, rising through the ranks to lead the agency as chief of police until his retirement in 1990; and

WHEREAS, even after his formal retirement, Chief Hale's commitment to public safety remained steadfast as he continued to serve the New River Valley as a part-time member of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office until 2009; and

WHEREAS, known for being principled, fair, and compassionate, Chief Hale was a leader who treated every citizen with dignity, embodying the highest ideals of community policing and servant leadership; and

WHEREAS, an active member of the Christiansburg Lions Club and a devoted member of the Christiansburg Church of Christ, Chief Hale's influence extended beyond the badge through his selfless volunteerism and neighborly spirit; and

WHEREAS, a man of great mechanical skill and personal industry, Chief Hale was of a generation that valued stewardship and hard work, traits he applied whether he was fixing what was broken or meticulously caring for his community; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy, and his infant son, Jerry Wayne, Alvin Hale will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Debbie, Donna, Cindy, and Darrell; his nine grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members, friends, and fellow law-enforcement officers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Alvin Lee Hale, a respected law-enforcement leader and true gentleman of the New River Valley; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Alvin Lee Hale as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory and gratitude for his decades of service to the Commonwealth.
