Commending Lewinsville Retirement Residence.

WHEREAS, Lewinsville Retirement Residence, a nonprofit senior living community in McLean, provides safe, supportive, and affordable homes for older adults with limited incomes; and

WHEREAS, Lewinsville Retirement Residence was established in 1975 after members of Lewinsville Presbyterian Church led a grassroots movement to facilitate the successful pursuit of a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; and

WHEREAS, the initial grant allowed for the conversion of a farmhouse near Great Falls Street and Chain Bridge Road into an apartment complex; Lewinsville Retirement Residence officially welcomed its first residents to 144 apartments in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Lewinsville Retirement Residence has expanded or upgraded its facilities many times over the years, and in 2025, the community supported nearly 180 residents in 161 apartments; more than half of its residents live on less than $15,000 per year and 70 percent live on less than $20,000 per year; and

WHEREAS, Lewinsville Retirement Residence also established Friends of the Lewinsville, a separate nonprofit organization that raises funding for essential services other than housing, such as meals, transportation, and community activities; and

WHEREAS, Lewinsville Retirement Residence has developed strong partnerships with other local organizations, including Goodwin Living, Share of McLean, the ServiceSource CARE Mobile, McLean Rotary Club, the Davis Career Center, and local high schools, to create new opportunities and enrich the lives of its residents; and

WHEREAS, the leadership, staff, and volunteers of Lewinsville Retirement Residence have met the needs of its residents with compassion, dignity, and professionalism, earning many awards and accolades for their achievements in creating a vibrant, caring community where older adults can maintain their independence and stay connected to their friends and neighbors in McLean; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lewinsville Retirement Residence on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its founding; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lewinsville Retirement Residence as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its life-changing contributions to older adults in need.
