Celebrating the life of M. Yaqub Mirza, Ph.D.

WHEREAS, M. Yaqub Mirza, Ph.D., a visionary leader, pioneering entrepreneur, and founding member of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society, died on December 14, 2025, leaving behind a transformative legacy of faith, scholarship, and community service; and

WHEREAS, Yaqub Mirza earned his doctorate in physics and pursued advanced studies in education, bringing exceptional intellectual depth and spiritual conviction to his lifelong commitment to building institutions that would serve generations of Americans; and

WHEREAS, Yaqub Mirza was instrumental in founding the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS), where his strategic guidance, financial stewardship, and institutional insight helped establish it as one of the largest and most vibrant Muslim communities in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Yaqub Mirza co-founded Sterling Management Group and played a foundational role in establishing Amana Mutual Funds, pioneering faith-aligned financial stewardship that strengthened families and inspired a generation of professionals and community leaders; and

WHEREAS, Yaqub Mirza founded the Center for Islam in the Contemporary World at Shenandoah University, building bridges of interfaith understanding and creating educational platforms that continue to benefit Virginia communities; and

WHEREAS, through decades of mentorship, writings, and commitment to ethical prosperity, Yaqub Mirza influenced countless individuals who today lead with the principles of excellence, integrity, and community service that he championed; and

WHEREAS, Yaqub Mirza's vision extended beyond individual institutions to encompass the broader American Muslim community, establishing governance structures, long-term planning practices, and systems that continue to guide organizations throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Yaqub Mirza will be remembered as a builder of institutions, a mentor to leaders, a catalyst for positive change, and a founder whose vision is reflected in every program, classroom, and family that finds belonging within the communities he helped establish; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of M. Yaqub Mirza, Ph.D., a distinguished Virginian whose lifetime of service enriched the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of M. Yaqub Mirza, Ph.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
