AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE

A BILL to direct the Department of Medical Assistance Services to assess whether and to what extent other states provide medical assistance services coverage for remote patient monitoring services provided via telemedicine for high-risk pregnant persons through 12 months postpartum and for pregnant persons 35 years of age or older at their estimated delivery date through 12 months postpartum.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. That the Department of Medical Assistance Services (the Department) shall assess whether and to what extent other states provide medical assistance services coverage for remote patient monitoring services provided via telemedicine for (i) high-risk pregnant persons through 12 months postpartum or (ii) pregnant persons 35 years of age or older at their estimated delivery date through 12 months postpartum. The Department shall survey the type of medical assistance services coverage provided for such persons in other states, costs associated with such coverage, best practices in providing such coverage, and any other relevant information for the General Assembly to consider regarding the expansion of medical assistance services coverage in the Commonwealth to such populations, including whether age is a consideration in defining those eligible for coverage. The Department shall submit a report on its findings to the Chairs of the Senate Committees on Finance and Appropriations and Education and Health and the House Committees on Appropriations and Health and Human Services no later than November 1, 2026.
