WHEREAS, the Town of Dendron, located in Surry County, proudly celebrates 120 years since its incorporation by an Act of the General Assembly on March 15, 1906; and
WHEREAS, originally known as Mussel Fork Village and later renamed Dendron, a name derived from the Greek word for “tree,” the town's identity has long been rooted in its rich forestry heritage and natural beauty; and
WHEREAS, Dendron rose to prominence in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a thriving lumber company town, serving as the headquarters of the Surry Lumber Company and as a hub of rail transportation that connected rural communities to markets and opportunity; and
WHEREAS, despite economic hardship following the closure of the lumber operations in 1927 and a devastating Main Street fire in 1931, the resilient citizens of Dendron persevered, rebuilding their community and preserving its proud history; and
WHEREAS, today, Dendron remains a close-knit town whose residents honor their shared heritage, celebrate their enduring spirit, and contribute meaningfully to the civic and cultural life of Surry County and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the 120th anniversary of Dendron's incorporation offers a fitting opportunity to reflect on the town's legacy of industry, resilience, and community pride and to recognize the generations of families whose dedication has sustained it; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Town of Dendron hereby be commended on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of its incorporation; and, be it
