WHEREAS, Claude W. Harrison, an accomplished former architect, retired as a member of the House Clerk's Office in 2025, concluding more than a decade of service to the Virginia House of Delegates as a clerk for various committees and subcommittees; and
WHEREAS, Claude Harrison grew up in Emporia, where he graduated from Greensville County High School, then continued his education at the University of Virginia; he completed a three-year apprenticeship in Richmond before passing his state exam to become a registered architect; and
WHEREAS, Claude Harrison practiced architecture in Richmond for 12 years, then joined the property management team of United Virginia Bank as an architectural coordinator; he subsequently worked for Central Fidelity Bank as vice president and eastern region facilities manager and for Wachovia as the Virginia real estate manager; he was also a founding board member of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the International Facility Management Association; and
WHEREAS, in 2000, Claude Harrison joined the law firm Williams Mullen as its first director of facilities, in which capacity he was responsible for acquiring real estate properties, designing new facilities, and overseeing renovation of existing facilities; and
WHEREAS, Claude Harrison retired in 2011, but after the death of his wife, Sue, he began seeking new opportunities to stay engaged with his community and serve others and subsequently joined the House Clerk's Office in House Committee Operations; and
WHEREAS, Claude Harrison began serving as a clerk of the House Committee on Transportation during the 2012 Session of the General Assembly, then worked as a room clerk, and ultimately became the clerk of the House Committee on Counties, Cities and Towns; and
WHEREAS, Claude Harrison earned the trust and respect of multiple committee chairs during his tenure as a clerk, and he was a highly admired member of the House Committee Operations team, who served as the unofficial social director for his coworkers; and
WHEREAS, Claude Harrison served the Commonwealth with distinction, and his dedication, integrity, and attention to detail helped ensure the efficient and effective operation of state government; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Claude W. Harrison hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement from the House Clerk's Office in 2025; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Claude W. Harrison as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his legacy of outstanding service to the House of Delegates and the Commonwealth as a whole.
