WHEREAS, Matthew A. Schwaner, a master firefighter with the Virginia Beach Fire Department, was named the Virginia Beach Firefighter of the Year in 2025; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Schwaner's tireless efforts to innovate and improve training and operations at the Virginia Beach Fire Department have enhanced the department's operational readiness and emergency preparedness; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Schwaner has demonstrated exceptional bravery and professionalism, as well as a commitment to ensuring the highest standards of public safety, in his service as a Virginia Beach firefighter; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Schwaner received the Virginia Beach Firefighter of the Year award for upholding the core values of the Virginia Beach Fire Department, including service, caring, honesty, trust, and integrity; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Schwaner was selected by his peers for the Virginia Beach Firefighter of the Year award, reflecting the strong bonds he has formed throughout the department and the faith his colleagues have in him when they are called to action; and

WHEREAS, through his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the community he serves, Matthew Schwaner has embodied the ideals of the firefighting profession, earning the praise and esteem of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Matthew A. Schwaner hereby be commended for being named the 2025 Virginia Beach Firefighter of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Matthew A. Schwaner as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth.
