Commending NATASHA House.

WHEREAS, NATASHA House, a faith-based nonprofit organization in York County, has provided transitional housing and support services for hundreds of unhoused mothers and their children, promoting self-sufficiency and stability in communities throughout the Virginia Peninsula; and
WHEREAS, NATASHA (New Alternative Towards A Secure Home Atmosphere) House was founded by Deloris L. Borum and incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2009; since that time, the organization has provided housing to 255 families and served an additional 230 families through outreach programs; and
WHEREAS, over the course of its history, NATASHA House has served women and children from the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg and the counties of James City and York; and
WHEREAS, in addition to providing housing in Yorktown, NATASHA House operates the HOME program to train and prepare mothers to accept the responsibilities of becoming homeowners and providers for their families through intensive case management, intentional training, career skill development, and individualized planning; and
WHEREAS, NATASHA House engages with young people through the C.H.A.M.P.S. program, a trauma-informed system that helps children learn more about health, nutrition, financial literacy, and technology and formulate their own career and life plans; and
WHEREAS, NATASHA House provides hands-on education and training in agribusiness through its Seed2Table Enterprise to help both mothers and children develop skills in project management, entrepreneurship, and community engagement; and
WHEREAS, over the course of NATASHA House's history, 100 percent of program graduates have remained housed afterward and 83 percent of participants who moved out before finishing a program remained housed afterward; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That NATASHA House hereby be commended for its legacy of service to unhoused women and children on the Virginia Peninsula; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to NATASHA House as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's vital work to empower women and children in need.
