Celebrating the life of Charles Martin Caravati, Jr., M.D.

WHEREAS, Charles Martin Caravati, Jr., M.D., a trusted health care professional and a champion for education in the Richmond community, died on June 5, 2025; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Richmond, Charles “Charlie” Martin Caravati, Jr., M.D. graduated from St. Christopher's School and continued his education at the University of Virginia (UVA), where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha, Phi Kappa Sigma, the IMP Society, the Thirteen Society, the T.I.L.K.A. Society, and the Seven Society; and
WHEREAS, in 1969, Charlie Caravati established Dermatology Associates of Virginia, where he provided exceptional care to members of the Richmond community until his retirement in 2000; he was highly admired in his field and earned the Walter Reed Distinguished Achievement Award from the UVA Medical Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, Charlie Caravati was a dedicated lifelong learner and an advocate for education, providing his leadership and insights to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors, as well as the boards of St. Christopher's School, Fredericksburg Academy, and the UVA Medical School Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Charlie Caravati had also served as chair of ChildFund International, a nonprofit organization devoted to transforming the lives of children around the world; and
WHEREAS, Charlie Caravati enjoyed fellowship and worship with the Richmond community as a lifelong member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and a regular attendee of the Monte Maria Monastery of the Visitation of Holy Mary; and
WHEREAS, Charlie Caravati will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife, Betty; his children, Charles III, Elizabeth, and Nancy, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Charles Martin Caravati, Jr., M.D., an esteemed health care provider and community leader in Richmond; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles Martin Caravati, Jr., M.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
