Commending Donald L. Unger.

WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, Donald L. Unger has served and safeguarded the residents of Henrico County as a dedicated member of the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad; and

WHEREAS, Donald “Don” Unger grew up in New Jersey, where he developed a fascination with fire trucks in his youth that influenced his passion for public service in later life; he volunteered to clean the station for a local ambulance service, then took an emergency medical technician class in 1971; and

WHEREAS, two years later, Don Unger matriculated at the University of Richmond and promptly joined the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he has served ever since and held numerous leadership roles, including vice president and board chair; and

WHEREAS, Don Unger has worked diligently to maintain certifications and keep up with advancements in the field of emergency medicine, becoming a trusted source of institutional knowledge and expertise and serving as a trusted mentor to generations of younger squad members; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his career, Don Unger answered countless calls for service, responding to a wide range of emergency situations, from rescuing a trapped pet, to delivering a baby in the back of an ambulance, and saving the life of someone whose heart had stopped; and

WHEREAS, outside of his work with the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad, Don Unger is a successful financial advisor, who founded Old Dominion Investment & Retirement Advisors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Donald L. Unger for his more than five decades of service to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Donald L. Unger as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of contributions to the residents of Henrico County as a public safety officer.
