Celebrating the life of Annabel Morgan Edge.

WHEREAS, Annabel Morgan Edge, a vibrant member of the Richmond community who worked as an educator at Virginia Commonwealth University for many years and a champion for the arts who served as a docent at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, died on February 11, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Annabel Edge was born in Boston, Massachusetts, where her father was stationed during World War II, and grew up in Richmond, where she excelled academically, athletically, and as a student leader at St. Catherine's School; and

WHEREAS, Annabel Edge was a talented multisport athlete, who enjoyed golf, tennis, horseback riding, field hockey, lacrosse, basketball, and swimming, and was inducted into the St. Catherine's School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024; she was the first female member of the local YMCA, which had the only indoor pool at the time, and set national and international records in competitive swimming; and

WHEREAS, Annabel Edge matriculated at Connecticut College and pursued post-graduate studies at Columbia University; from 1969 to 1984, she lived in Connecticut with her late husband, Samuel, and worked as a physical therapist and an educator; and

WHEREAS, Annabel Edge returned to Richmond to run her family's business, Morgan Brothers Bag Company, and subsequently earned a master's degree in physical therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she ultimately joined the faculty as an assistant professor; and

WHEREAS, Annabel Edge helped students at VCU achieve their academic goals through her patience and grace, touching the lives of countless young men and women until her retirement in 2002; and

WHEREAS, after the death of her first husband, Annabel Edge married James Edge in 2000, and the couple traveled extensively for many years, visiting every continent except Antarctica and kindling her passion for the fine arts; and

WHEREAS, in later life, Annabel Edge served as a docent at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, where she prepared exhibitions and became one of the museum's most requested guides; and

WHEREAS, Annabel Edge volunteered her time and talents to support several other organizations in the Richmond area, working diligently to enhance the lives of her fellow members of the community; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her first husband, Samuel, Annabel Edge will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, James; her children, Samuel, Jr., and Tyler, and their families; her stepchildren, Laura and Brannen, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Annabel Morgan Edge; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Annabel Morgan Edge as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
