Commending the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc.

WHEREAS, the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc., a distinguished affiliate of one of the oldest and largest volunteer service organizations dedicated to enriching and empowering African American communities, celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc., was chartered on October 7, 1950, with 17 original members who were dedicated to working for the benefit of the communities in Roanoke and the surrounding area; and

WHEREAS, the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc., has grown and evolved over the years, expanding its efforts to incorporate the five programming facets of the national organization's service mandate, including services to youth, the arts, national trends and services, international trends and services, and health and human services; and

WHEREAS, today, the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc., makes a transformative difference in the lives of others by raising awareness of health issues, awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors, honoring women veterans, and implementing a number of educational and mentorship programs; and

WHEREAS, a signature achievement of the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc., was the creation of the Linked to Success: Growing up G.R.E.A.T. program in 2018, which helped address student achievement gaps and chronic absenteeism at Hurt Park Elementary School in Roanoke and was recognized with a Legacy Program Award and a Best Practices Award at The Links' 48th Eastern Area Conference; and

WHEREAS, on October 4, 2025, the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc., commemorated its 75th anniversary at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, which provided members an opportunity to reflect upon the organization's significant achievements in service to the communities of the Greater Roanoke region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc., for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's contributions to Roanoke and the Commonwealth.
