Commending Scott Hayes.

WHEREAS, for 10 years, Scott Hayes has uplifted and inspired the congregation at All Saints Episcopal Church in Richmond as the church's director of music; and

WHEREAS, the son of a pastor, Scott Hayes spent his childhood performing in church choirs and knew from a young age that he wanted to be a church musician; and

WHEREAS, Scott Hayes held his first church position in Athens, West Virginia, while still in high school then moved to Ohio to study at Ohio Wesleyan University and Cedarville University; later, in 2012, he earned a master's degree in organ performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied under the acclaimed organist Todd Wilson; and

WHEREAS, prior to joining the staff at All Saints Episcopal Church, Scott Hayes served for several years as the organist and choirmaster at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Granville, Ohio, and as the tonal director of the Muller Pipe Organ Company in Croton, Ohio, where he continues to work on a part-time basis; and

WHEREAS, as the director of music at All Saints Episcopal Church, Scott Hayes coordinates music for the church's worship services while overseeing the various choral singers, organists, and instrumentalists who support the church's music ministry; and

WHEREAS, Scott Hayes' achievements at All Saints Episcopal Church include sustaining the church's music ministry throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, leading two international choir tours, hosting a conference of the Association of Anglican Musicians, rejuvenating the church's boys' and girls' choir programs, and establishing and expanding the positions of choral scholar and principal organist; and

WHEREAS, Scott Hayes' has made an impact on the wider Richmond musical community through a variety of endeavors, including by offering, organizing, or hosting lessons, rehearsals, festival choirs, evensong recitals, and meetings of the American Guild of Organists; and

WHEREAS, with a passion for illuminating the power of faith through music, Scott Hayes has left a positive and lasting imprint on All Saints Episcopal Church and the Richmond community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Scott Hayes hereby be commended for his 10 years of service at All Saints Episcopal Church; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Scott Hayes as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to the music ministry at All Saints Episcopal Church and to music education in the Commonwealth.
