Commending the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter.

WHEREAS, for 50 years, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter has nurtured the growth and development of its members while supporting the Virginia Beach community through numerous endeavors; and

WHEREAS, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter was chartered on June 5, 1976, with 19 members, becoming the first African American Greek-lettered organization to be charted in Virginia Beach; and

WHEREAS, today, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter has upwards of 100 members who have expertise and experience in a variety of industries and fields; and

WHEREAS, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter's members work tirelessly to serve the community by spearheading an array of initiatives and endeavors in the areas of education, health, the arts, and financial literacy; and

WHEREAS, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter helped to charter the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Sigma Omicron Chapter at Virginia Wesleyan University, contributing immeasurably to the success of its student members; and

WHEREAS, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter has cultivated relationships with a number of local partners to enhance its ability to fulfill its mission; and

WHEREAS, on June 6, 2026, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter held a formal dinner to celebrate the organization's golden anniversary, providing an opportunity for members to reflect upon the organization's meaningful and lasting impact on communities in Virginia Beach, the Tidewater area, and beyond; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter hereby be commended for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Gamma Omega Chapter as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's contributions to Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth.
