AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE

A BILL to require the Virginia STEM Education Advisory Board to make recommendations to the Board of Education regarding STEM+C Competition Grant Program eligibility.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. The Virginia STEM Education Advisory Board (the Advisory Board) established pursuant to Chapter 26 (§ 22.1-364 et seq.) of Title 22.1 of the Code of Virginia shall, no later than July 15, 2026, make recommendations to the Board of Education (the Board) for clarifying in the Board's guidelines for the general requirements of qualifying for a grant pursuant to the STEM+C Competition Team Grant Program (the guidelines) in accordance with § 22.1-386 of the Code of Virginia that such a grant may be renewed for an existing grant recipient or may be used to support an existing STEM+C competition team that has not previously been awarded such a grant or to establish a new STEM+C competition team. The Board shall amend the guidelines in accordance with the Advisory Board's recommendations as soon as practicable after it receives such recommendations.
