Commending the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

WHEREAS, for 30 years, the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., has nurtured the character and leadership skills of its members while enhancing the quality of life in Reston and Herndon; and

WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., was established in 1911 at Howard University and is notably the first international fraternal organization founded on the campus of a historically Black college or university; and

WHEREAS, the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi was chartered on December 14, 1996, with 11 founding members, including its first president, Emmanuel T. McCrae; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, the membership of the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi has steadily grown to include many accomplished individuals across a wide array of industries; and

WHEREAS, the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi has spearheaded a number of endeavors to assist individuals and families in the Northwest section of Fairfax County, including sweater and coat drives, a mentoring program, and voter education programs and registration drives; and

WHEREAS, the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi has supported the well-being of others by actively participating in several local programs and initiatives, including the Special Olympics, youth robotics competitions, blood drives, and awareness walks for diabetes and cancer; and

WHEREAS, in 2002, the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi established the OKK Foundation to bolster and expand the chapter's philanthropic programs and strengthen its ability to help area youth pursue and achieve their dreams; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of its efforts, the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi was named a Best of Reston honoree by Cornerstones and the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce in 2019 and Small Chapter of the Year by the national Omega Psi Phi Fraternity organization that same year; and

WHEREAS, guided by their motto, “Live Your Creed,” the members of the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi have given generously of their time and resources to make a positive and lasting impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's contributions to Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth.
