Celebrating the life of Jane Kamps Strauss.

WHEREAS, Jane Kamps Strauss, a dedicated educator, esteemed public servant, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and beloved member of the McLean community, died on April 11, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Jane “Janie” Kamps Strauss earned a bachelor's degree in history from George Washington University and a master's degree in teaching from the Harvard Graduate School of Education; and

WHEREAS, Janie Strauss was a preschool and elementary school teacher for many years, contributing greatly to the growth and maturation of her students; and

WHEREAS, Janie Strauss was a longtime member of the Fairfax County School Board, where she worked tirelessly to ensure the academic, social, and emotional well-being of Fairfax County's students and the success of its schools; and

WHEREAS, Janie Strauss served as chair of The Cappies, a nonprofit organization that supports and trains high school theater and journalism students, and was highly involved with various other education and civic organizations in the Fairfax County area; and

WHEREAS, Janie Strauss received several honors and awards in recognition of her service, including the Virginia School Boards Association's Advocate in Education Award and Dranesville District Lady Fairfax honors from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, preceded in death by her husband, Bill, Janie Strauss will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her children, Melanie, Victoria, Rebecca, and Eric, and their families and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jane Kamps Strauss, whose legacy of love, kindness, and service will be cherished by all who knew her; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jane Kamps Strauss as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
