HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 161

Commending the Frank W. Cox High School field hockey team.

WHEREAS, the Frank W. Cox High School field hockey team of Virginia Beach won the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship on November 15, 2025, at Independence High School in Ashburn; and

WHEREAS, the Cox High School Falcons defeated the First Colonial High School Patriots of Virginia Beach by a score of 2–0 to earn the program's 25th state championship title; and

WHEREAS, after narrowly besting the Nansemond River High School Warriors of Suffolk by a score of 2–1 in the state tournament quarterfinal, the Cox Falcons secured shutout victories against both Riverbend High School of Fredericksburg and First Colonial High School to conclude the season in dominant fashion; and

WHEREAS, the Cox Falcons' win over local rival First Colonial High School was a redemptive finish for the team after they had fallen to the Patriots two weeks prior in the regional tournament; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Cox High School Falcons is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Cox High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Frank W. Cox High School field hockey team for winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Frank W. Cox High School field hockey team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievement.
