Commending Linda D. Meloy, M.D.

WHEREAS, Linda D. Meloy, M.D., a distinguished pediatrician and professor of pediatrics with the VCU Health System, has greatly served young patients and their families for many years; and
WHEREAS, after earning her doctor of medicine degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Linda Meloy completed her residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, following her residency program, Linda Meloy served for six years as the pediatrician for the Crater Health District of the Virginia Department of Health, ensuring that underserved families in the Petersburg area received exceptional pediatric care; and
WHEREAS, Linda Meloy later joined the staff at VCU Health in order to teach at the VCU School of Medicine and to provide primary care and conduct research at the VCU Medical Center and the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU; and
WHEREAS, as the medical director of the VCU Medical Center's newborn nursery, Linda Meloy leads a team of physicians and nurses dedicated to providing world-class care to patients in their first days of life; and
WHEREAS, Linda Meloy has spearheaded a number of research projects on vaccines and newborn jaundice, developing data and insights that will facilitate greater patient outcomes in the future; and
WHEREAS, Linda Meloy has taken her talents worldwide by participating in medical mission trips to Russia, Ukraine, India, Estonia, Guatemala, and Romania, making an impact in the lives of families that have limited access to pediatric care; and
WHEREAS, Linda Meloy has fostered the growth and development of her fellow pediatricians both as a professor and by coordinating Pediatrics at the Beach, the annual pediatric continuing medical education conference in Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to her patients' well-being, Linda Meloy has embodied the ideals of the medical profession, earning the respect and esteem of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Linda D. Meloy, M.D., hereby be commended for her legacy of service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linda D. Meloy, M.D., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her contributions to the health of young people in the Commonwealth.
