AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE

A BILL to require the Superintendent of Public Instruction to issue a Superintendent's memo with guidance and resources for public high school athletic coaches on sickle cell trait.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. No later than the start of the 2026–2027 school year, the Superintendent of Public Instruction shall issue a Superintendent's memo that contains guidance and resources for public high school athletic coaches on (i) sickle cell trait and who it affects, (ii) the risk factors for public high school student-athletes with sickle cell trait during athletic activity, (iii) the warning signs of complications from sickle cell trait, (iv) sickle cell trait emergency response protocols, and (v) the complication prevention strategies for public high school student-athletes with sickle cell trait.
