Celebrating the life of Larry Allen McClure.

WHEREAS, Larry Allen McClure, an entrepreneur and a leader in the automotive industry who achieved several wins in the NASCAR Cup Series as one of the owners of Morgan-McClure Motorsports, died on June 25, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Larry McClure was born in Buchanan County, then moved to Chilhowie in Smyth County with his family at a young age; and

WHEREAS, Larry McClure began to cultivate his lifelong love of automobiles as a teenager, and, after two years at the former Richmond Professional Institute, he opened McClure Motor Sales with his brother, Ed, and made cars his career; and

WHEREAS, in 1980, Larry McClure partnered with Tim Morgan to open Morgan McClure Chevrolet in Coeburn; they subsequently established Morgan-McClure Motorsports, a stock car racing team that found success in the NASCAR Cup Series; and

WHEREAS, Larry McClure oversaw 14 victories for Morgan-McClure Motorsports, including a cherished first win at Bristol Motor Speedway and three wins in the prestigious Daytona 500; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement in 2017, Larry McClure enjoyed locating and preserving vintage automobiles throughout Virginia, Kentucky, and North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Larry McClure will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ginny; his siblings, Ed, Teddy, Jerry, Gerald, Jim, Michael, and Betsy, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Larry Allen McClure, a highly admired entrepreneur in Southwest Virginia and a respected team owner in national stock car racing; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Larry Allen McClure as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
