AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE

A BILL to direct the Board of Medicine to convene a work group to create educational materials for patients considering breast implants.

 

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. That the Board of Medicine (the Board) shall convene a work group comprised of plastic surgeons, primary care providers, oncologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and hospitals to create educational materials in electronic and physical form promoting best practices for patients considering breast implants. Such materials shall include information on (i) the risks of potential complications from breast implants, (ii) potential development of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, (iii) the increased chance of developing certain autoimmune and connective tissue diseases, (iv) the availability of aesthetic flat closure as an alternative, and (v) other systemic symptoms associated with breast implants. The Board shall complete the educational materials and distribute such materials to its licensees by January 1, 2027.
