Commending Mike Street.

WHEREAS, for 35 years, Mike Street has distinguished himself as one of the top names in hip hop and rhythm and blues radio broadcasting in the Commonwealth by supporting up-and-coming artists and building a strong sense of community throughout Central Virginia and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Mike Street began his long career in radio at the University of Richmond, where he presented a mix show on WDCE 90.1 FM during Black History Month in 1989; the one-off performance turned into a five-year run of his own show, where he launched the careers of several Virginia-based artists, such as Mad Skillz and DJ Lonnie B; and
WHEREAS, Mike Street subsequently joined Richmond's WCDX 92.1 FM, where he served as mixer, music director, and afternoon drive host, then helped launch WBTJ 106.5 FM as music director and assistant program director, before becoming afternoon drive host and program director; and
WHEREAS, Mike Street also worked for several other stations in Richmond and Hampton Roads until late 2024, when he was selected by the Audacy broadcasting company as its national vice president for hip hop and rhythm and blues; and
WHEREAS, Mike Street currently maintains his role at Audacy and serves as programmer of WPGC 95.5 FM in Washington, D.C., and programmer and afternoon drive host of WBTJ in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, in 2019, Mike Street became the first Virginia broadcaster to receive the prestigious Marconi Award for Medium Market Personality of the Year, and in 2024, WBTJ, with Mike Street as brand manager, became the first Virginia station to win the Marconi Award for Urban Station of the Year; and
WHEREAS, among many other accolades, Mike Street was selected by Barrett Media as one of the top radio programmers and top radio personalities in 2025; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his career, Mike Street used his platform to promote local artists and local businesses and connect listeners with civic organizations, community groups, and local officials; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Mike Street hereby be commended for his 35 years of achievements as one of the top radio personalities in the Richmond area; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mike Street as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his legacy of contributions to radio broadcasting.
