SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 57

Commending the Glenvar High School boys' soccer team.

WHEREAS, the Glenvar High School boys' soccer team of Salem won the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship on June 14, 2025, at Donald J. Kerr Stadium in Salem; and

WHEREAS, the Glenvar High School Highlanders defeated the Bruton High School Panthers of Williamsburg by a score of 2–0 to secure the program's third consecutive state title over four straight state final appearances; and

WHEREAS, following a scoreless first half, the Glenvar Highlanders saw a header from Aidan Hylton off a corner kick by Wesley Feliciano for the first goal of the match, followed by a goal from Adam Saunders with an assist from Luke Farmer to seal the win; and

WHEREAS, the Glenvar Highlanders concluded the 2024–2025 season with a perfect 23–0 record and extended their undefeated streak to 61 games, dating back to 2023; and

WHEREAS, the foundation to the Glenvar Highlanders' success has been its exceptional defense, which has remained consistent through the program's championship reign and which allowed only three goals the entire 2024–2025 season; and

WHEREAS, the Glenvar Highlanders' championship win was a fitting end for the program's 13 seniors who have played in the past four state title games, marking an extraordinary era for soccer at Glenvar High School; and

WHEREAS, the Glenvar Highlanders' triumphs are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of the entire Glenvar High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Glenvar High School boys' soccer team for winning the 2025 Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Josh Jones, head coach of the Glenvar High School boys' soccer team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievements.
