HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 104

Commending the Skyline High School wrestling team.

WHEREAS, the Skyline High School wrestling team of Warren County won the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship on March 1, 2025, at Heritage High School in Lynchburg; and

WHEREAS, the Skyline High School Hawks tallied 218 points, outscoring the runner-up Staunton River High School Golden Eagles of Bedford County by 39.5 points; and

WHEREAS, the Skyline Hawks' championship title was notably the first state championship title in Skyline High School history and the first state championship won by a boys' team from Warren County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, the Skyline Hawks were led by Paden Alyea, Parker Withers, and Josiah Sykes, who each won individual state championship titles in their events, tying the program's record for the number of wrestlers to secure a state crown in a season; and

WHEREAS, the Skyline Hawks saw strong performances from Jacob Buffum, Vinny DiVello, and Joey DiVello, who all finished second in their events, as well as Cody Salomon, D.J. Mabie, and Carter Huston, who placed third, fifth, and fifth, respectively; and

WHEREAS, the nine wrestlers who placed in the state tournament for the Skyline Hawks represented the second highest number of wrestlers to achieve that feat in a season in the history of the Skyline High School wrestling program; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Skyline Hawks are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Skyline High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Skyline High School wrestling team for winning the 2025 Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kyle Symons, coach of the Skyline High School wrestling team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
