Commending the Midlothian High School music program.

WHEREAS, the Midlothian High School music program of Chesterfield County, which includes the school's band, choral, and orchestra programs, received the Blue Ribbon Award from the Virginia Music Educators Association during the 2024–2025 school year; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Ribbon Award presented to the Midlothian High School music program is the highest award given to music programs in the Commonwealth and recognizes schools that achieve a superior rating in all five assessment performances for band, orchestra, and chorus; and

WHEREAS, the Trojan marching band of Midlothian High School performed at the Virginia Band & Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) Marching Band Assessment East Site at Massaponax High School in Spotsylvania County on October 25, 2024, and earned the rating of superior; and

WHEREAS, the Midlothian High School concert orchestra performed at the VBODA District 3 Orchestra Assessment at Elizabeth Davis Middle School in Chesterfield County on March 4, 2025, and earned the rating of superior; and

WHEREAS, the Trojan concert band of Midlothian High School performed at the VBODA District 3 Concert Band Assessment at Goochland High School on March 7, 2025, and earned the rating of superior; and

WHEREAS, the Midlothian High School concert choir performed at the Virginia Choral Directors Association District 3 Chorus Assessment at Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield County on March 17, 2025, and earned the rating of superior; and

WHEREAS, the Midlothian High School chamber orchestra performed at the VBODA District 3 Orchestra Assessment at James River High School in Chesterfield County on March 25, 2025, and earned the rating of superior; and

WHEREAS, each of the Midlothian High School music ensembles not only received an overall rating of superior, but also received superior ratings from each individual judge on their respective panels; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Ribbon Award recognition in the 2024–2025 school year marks the 11th time that the Midlothian High School music program has earned this distinguished award; and

WHEREAS, with the combination of the superior rating in marching band and the superior rating in concert band, the Midlothian High School music program received its 24th designation as a Virginia Honor Band, an honor that is presented each year by VBODA, a subsidiary of the Virginia Music Educators Association; and

WHEREAS, music programs like the program at Midlothian High School have shown to increase academic performance, self-esteem, and confidence in students while contributing to a well-rounded education; and

WHEREAS, the staff of the Midlothian High School music program have shown extraordinary dedication to fostering music education through the many opportunities they provide for their students, as well as a deep commitment to training and guiding the next generation of musicians and choristers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Midlothian High School music program for receiving the Virginia Music Educators Association's Blue Ribbon Award in the 2024–2025 school year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Midlothian High School music program as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the school's excellence in and dedication to the music education of its students.
