Commending Sheryl Ann McLaughlin.

WHEREAS, Sheryl Ann McLaughlin, a native of Hampton and a graduate of Hampton High School, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and Hampton University, retired in 2025 after more than 30 years of exemplary service as an educator; and

WHEREAS, beginning her career in special education before transitioning to science, Sheryl McLaughlin spent three decades instilling a love of learning and a sense of value in every student who entered her classroom; and

WHEREAS, in 2024, Hampton City Schools honored Sheryl McLaughlin as the Jones Middle School Teacher of the Year, the Hampton City Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year, and the Hampton City Schools Division-wide Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated steward of the Commonwealth's natural resources, Sheryl McLaughlin led students in pivotal ecological projects, including oyster gardening and restoration efforts within the Chesapeake Bay watershed, to ensure the preservation of the Commonwealth's precious marine environments for future generations; and

WHEREAS, Sheryl McLaughlin was a constant fixture at her students' sporting events and extracurricular activities, serving as a mentor to both her pupils and her fellow teachers; and

WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, Sheryl McLaughlin has personified the highest ideals of public service and remains a beloved figure in the Hampton Roads education community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Sheryl Ann McLaughlin on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sheryl Ann McLaughlin as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her career and best wishes for her retirement.
