SENATE BILL NO. 194

AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE

A BILL to direct the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing to require physicians duly authorized to practice medicine in the Commonwealth and advanced practice registered nurses authorized to practice independently to complete training on the Electronic Death Registration System.

 

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. That the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing shall require the completion of the Electronic Death Registration System training offered either (i) on the Office of Vital Records website or (ii) by Office of Vital Records personnel as a requirement of licensure renewal for physicians duly authorized to practice medicine in the Commonwealth and advanced practice registered nurses who are authorized to practice without a practice agreement pursuant to subsection I of § 54.1-2957 of the Code of Virginia.

§ 2. That the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing shall include in their licensure renewal applications process an attestation by physicians duly licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth and advanced practice registered nurses who are authorized to practice without a practice agreement pursuant to subsection I of § 54.1-2957 of the Code of Virginia acknowledging the requirements of the timely signing of death certificates pursuant to § 32.1-263 of the Code of Virginia.

2. That the initial promulgation of regulations to implement the provisions of this act by the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing shall be exempt from the requirements of the Administrative Process Act (§ 2.2-4000 et seq. of the Code of Virginia).
