Commending Donald A. Irby.

WHEREAS, Donald A. Irby, a decorated veteran with many years of experience in law enforcement, retired from the Arlington County Police Department in 2025; and

WHEREAS, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Donald Irby enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 1991; he deployed to Beirut, Lebanon, and served during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, earning two Combat Action Ribbons, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, and a Certificate of Commendation; and

WHEREAS, Donald Irby returned to Ohio and served as a member of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office from 1994 to 2004, when he joined the United States Army; he supported Operation Enduring Freedom until 2016, receiving the Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, among others; and

WHEREAS, after completing his distinguished tenure with the military, Donald Irby briefly worked for Virginia Railway Express, then joined the Arlington County Police Department in June 2017; and

WHEREAS, working as an evidence and inventory specialist, Donald Irby managed supplies efficiently and ensured that the Arlington County Police Department maintained operational readiness; he received the Civilian Employee of the Month award in November 2022 for his knowledge, positive attitude, and contributions to the department; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Donald A. Irby on the occasion of his retirement from the Arlington County Police Department; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Donald A. Irby as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his achievements as a law-enforcement officer and exceptional service to the residents of Arlington County.
