Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 30-9.1 as follows:
§ 30-9.1. Prohibition on discrimination in employment; penalty.
Any person who serves as a member of the General Assembly shall neither be discharged from employment nor have any adverse personnel action taken against him, nor shall he be required to use sick leave or vacation time, as a result of his absence from employment due to his attendance at any regular or special session of the General Assembly or any meeting of a legislative committee, subcommittee, commission, council, or other entity on which he serves by reason of his status as a member of the General Assembly. Any employer violating the provisions of this section is guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor.
