Commending the E.C. Glass High School marching band.

WHEREAS, the E.C. Glass High School marching band of Lynchburg won the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative Group 3 state championship on October 25, 2025, at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg; and

WHEREAS, the 67-member E.C. Glass High School marching band bested eight other similarly sized bands to win the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative (VMBC) Group 3 competition, bringing home the program's first-ever state championship and earning a spot in the VMBC Commonwealth Cup; and

WHEREAS, the E.C. Glass High School marching band performed a range designed by composer and arranger Ben Hylton that featured the song “Li'l Red Riding Hood” by Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs; and

WHEREAS, the E.C. Glass High School marching band worked tirelessly in preparation for the competition, holding two weeks of nine-hour practices at band camp in July, and then three three-hour practices each week thereafter; and

WHEREAS, the E.C. Glass High School marching band developed a high degree of collaboration and respect between its younger and older members throughout the year, inspiring every member to give their best to contribute to the group; and

WHEREAS, the E.C. Glass High School marching band's victory at the VMBC Group 3 stage was an exceptional finish for band director Doug Brown, who was in his second year with the program; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the E.C. Glass High School marching band are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-musicians, the leadership and guidance of their director and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire E.C. Glass High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the E.C. Glass High School marching band hereby be commended for winning the 2025 Virginia Marching Band Cooperative Group 3 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Brown, director of the E.C. Glass High School marching band, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the band's achievement and best wishes for its continued success.
