Commending the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program.

WHEREAS, for 50 years, the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program has generously cared for countless individuals and families throughout Montgomery County and the surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP) was founded in 1975 by Father Harry Scott, who raised $10,000 to start an organization that would address the most urgent needs of individuals and families in the local community; and
WHEREAS, from Father Harry Scott's vision, MCEAP has grown into a leading service organization in the area, which today provides hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to help people with a variety of needs, including paying their mortgages and utilities and securing food and clothing; and
WHEREAS, through feeding programs, financial assistance, and other efforts, MCEAP serves as a vital lifeline and source of stability for individuals and families in precarious circumstances, contributing immeasurably to the health and well-being of the community; and
WHEREAS, on April 26, 2025, MCEAP commemorated its 50th anniversary alongside several local leaders, including the mayor of Christiansburg, Mike Barber, and the mayor of Blacksburg, Leslie Hager-Smith, while raising funds for future programs through its “50 for 50 Years” campaign; and
WHEREAS, MCEAP has transformed countless lives in Montgomery County over the past half-century, making a positive and meaningful impact that will endure for generations to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's legacy of service in Montgomery County.
