A BILL to direct the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing to establish continuing education requirements on the electronic death registration system for and require an attestation on the requirements of the timely signing of death certificates by physicians and advanced practice registered nurses authorized to practice independently.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. That the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing shall, in collaboration with the Virginia Office of Vital Records, establish a continuing education course for the electronic death registration system as a requirement of licensure and licensure renewal for physicians and advanced practice registered nurses who are authorized to practice without a practice agreement pursuant to subsection I of § 54.1-2957 of the Code of Virginia.

§ 2. That the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing shall include in their licensure and licensure renewal applications process an attestation by physicians and advanced practice registered nurses who are authorized to practice without a practice agreement pursuant to subsection I of § 54.1-2957 of the Code of Virginia acknowledging the requirements of the timely signing of death certificates pursuant to § 32.1-263 of the Code of Virginia.

2. That the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing shall promulgate regulations to implement the provisions of this act to be effective within 280 days of its enactment.
