Commending the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings softball team.

WHEREAS, the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings softball team made history as the first team from the Commonwealth to win the Dixie Softball Darlings World Series on July 29, 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings began their season in March 2025 and clinched the District 7 championship and the state championship to advance to the Dixie Softball World Series, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings were the only team representing the Commonwealth in their age group at the Dixie Softball World Series and won five straight games in the double-elimination style tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings defeated teams from North Carolina by a score of 11–10, Alabama by a score of 9–6, Ruston, Louisiana, by a score of 12–10, and Caldwell, Louisiana, by a score of 14–12; and

WHEREAS, in the championship final, the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings again faced the team from Ruston, Louisiana, and dominated the game to win 15–2 and claim the World Series title; and

WHEREAS, upon returning home to the Commonwealth, the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings were honored with a championship parade in South Boston; and

WHEREAS, the successful season was a tribute to the hard work of all the athletes—Santana Barnett, Rylee Clark, Avery Clements, Sadie Clements, Maisey Crews, Ni'Arie Davis, Kaylynn Foushee, Olivia Gilliam, Bellamy McDowell, Mary Nel Roller, Birdie Wilkins, and Ava Worley—the leadership of head coach Shane Foushee and assistant coaches Will Worley, Sam Gilliam, and Amanda McDowell, as well as the support of the Halifax County and South Boston communities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings softball team on winning the Dixie Softball Darlings World Series in 2025; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Halifax South Boston Dixie Darlings softball team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for their achievements and best wishes for the future.
