HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 877
Commending Elizabeth Staton.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 21, 2025
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Staton dedicated 56 years of her life to helping children safely travel to and from Norfolk schools, becoming the longest-serving school crossing guard in city history; and
WHEREAS, seeking a job with flexible hours so that she could care for her children, Elizabeth Staton began working for Norfolk Public Schools as a crossing guard in 1967; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated and caring protector, Elizabeth Staton helped children safely reach their schools and home in rain, snow, and inclement weather at more than two dozen intersections throughout Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, over the course of her career, Elizabeth Staton built strong bonds with young people that lasted into adulthood; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Elizabeth Staton hereby be commended for her record-setting service as a school crossing guard in Norfolk; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Elizabeth Staton as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her achievements in service to generations of young people.
