Celebrating the life of Marvin Hyatt Watkins.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 20, 2025
WHEREAS, Marvin Hyatt Watkins, a distinguished educator and college administrator, died on January 13, 2025; and
WHEREAS, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Marvin Watkins was a passionate lifelong learner who inspired countless young people as a teacher and higher education administrator; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Watkins had a deep connection to the South Benbow Road Historic District, which was a focal point of the Black community in Greensboro from the mid-20th century onward; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Watkins was a pillar of his community, highly admired for his wisdom, generosity, and commitment to servant leadership; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Watkins will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife, Jamesena; his children, Michael and Yvette, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Marvin Hyatt Watkins; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Marvin Hyatt Watkins as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
